Alhamra Opens Week-Long Independence Day Festivities with Grand Cultural Showcase

LAHORE, August 9, 2025 — The Lahore Arts Council – Alhamra has kicked off a vibrant week-long celebration to mark Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, offering a series of cultural, artistic, and patriotic events aimed at honoring the nation’s rich heritage.

The festivities began with a grand musical concert headlined by acclaimed singer Jabar Abbas, whose soulful voice filled the hall with melodies that resonated deeply with the audience. Performing a mix of patriotic tunes and popular classics, Abbas drew enthusiastic applause, with attendees praising his ability to capture the spirit of the occasion.

As part of the Independence Day décor, a monumental 30-foot-high and 64-foot-wide crescent-and-star flag was unfurled across the facade of Alhamra Hall No. 1, immediately becoming a visual centerpiece of the celebrations. The building, bathed in green and white illumination, presented a breathtaking spectacle that symbolized unity and pride. The glow of the lights attracted large crowds, with many visitors stopping to capture photographs in front of the iconic landmark.

Speaking at the event, Punjab Secretary for Information & Culture and Alhamra Executive Director, Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani, said the sight of the massive crescent flag not only rekindled love for the homeland but also reflected Pakistan’s deep-rooted literary and cultural traditions. He emphasized that Alhamra’s role goes beyond entertainment, serving as a platform for promoting the country’s heritage both locally and internationally.

Alhamra Chairman Razi Ahmed praised the overwhelming public response, describing the Independence Day programs as “an expression of love for the Motherland.” He highlighted that the diversity of events planned for the week — from musical performances and art exhibitions to theatrical shows and literary gatherings — aims to engage people from all walks of life.

The celebrations are set to continue throughout the week, featuring:

  • Patriotic Theatre Performances by local drama groups depicting historical moments from Pakistan’s independence movement.
